Two key suspects behind this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations leakage to remain in police custody for six more days .
The suspects were nabbed by the police on the 17th of this month in Kisii before being brought to Nairobi for interrogation and recording of statements.
Lead investigating officer Walter Marunga, told trial Magistrate Hellen Onkwany that police needed more time to analyze the evidence from documents recovered from them.
He said during the arrest several items were recovered which include Computer CPU make HP, Laptop, printer 2 Routers, A modem 4 flash disc and two certificates.
“We intend to contact the cybercrime forensic department to help in the extraction of the evidence on computers Printer, mobile phone which are detained as exhibits,” he stated.
Inspector Marunga further told the court that the investigating team intended to obtain call data from Safaricom and Airtel operators.
He pointed out that they will be seeking the verification of recovered academic certificates with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC)to confirm their authenticity.
However, the application by the police seeking 14 days to hold the suspects was opposed by the lawyer Alexander Jaoko on behalf of the two, on grounds that police have already recovered documents which they can use in their investigations without the presence of the suspects.
He said what remains with police is in house job that does not require the suspects to be present.
The two will be held at Muthaiga police stations.
The two had been nabbed during a multi-agency operation between KNEC and police.
This comes after the government deregistered candidates who were caught in various malpractices during the KCSE exams.
