Details of pressure intensifying for the re-arrest of Obado

With all the cases taking a toll on Obado it seems like karma just won’t give up on him yet as new charges are still  being thrown at him and fire from those disappointed is enclosing on him.

The Senate has called for arrest and prosecution of embattled Migori governor, Zachary Okoth Obado, over misappropriation of county funds and unlawful accumulation of wealth.

The Senate’s Public Accounts Committee directed EACC to investigate the governor and arrest him so he can be charged for the alleged plunder of public funds during his term in office.

Obado is already facing two other charges, one relating to murder and the other illegal possession of firearms.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives raided the office and homes of Migori Governor Okoth Obado and confiscated, among other things, eight firearms, several bank statements and electronics.

The detectives pounced at dawn, and spent hours rummaging through documents that could help in their investigations into alleged misappropriation of Sh 2 billion in Migori County.

It is alleged that Migori County Governor Okoth Obado used proxies among them his relatives to siphon Sh 2 billion from the coffers of the county government, according to an affidavit filed in court by the anti-corruption watchdog.

The EACC has been investigating how Mr Obado abused his position to steal public funds through companies registered by his relatives.

In a period of three years, these newly registered companies had transacted Sh 1, 971,179,180 deals exclusively from the county government, which was glaringly disproportionate to their known legitimate sources of income.

“The commission received credible information that a few persons well known to be proxies of the governor, registered several companies for the purpose of fraudulent acquisition of public funds through fictitious contracts,” the EACC said.

Regarding his arrest of possession of guns, the Firearms Act is silent on the number of pistols a licensed civilian should own, but is specific on the type of firearms to be licensed for.

Obado is also out on bond in a case in which he is accused of killing his lover Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.

The county chief was freed on cash bail by two different judges presiding over the two high-profile cases

After bailing himself out on Sharon’s murder case he had been active lately attending political meetings, often accompanying the Deputy President who is seeking to make in-roads in Raila Odinga’s Nyanza backyard.
