Chelsea handed a blow ahead of Tottenham clash

Chelsea have been handed an injury scare ahead of their crunch time fixture against Tottenham Hotspur as Mateo Kovacic picked up an injury and was omitted from the Croatia squad that went down 2-1 to England in the UEFA Nations League.

Kovacic has been in and out of the Chelsea squad with the resurgence of Ross Barkley denying him a regular starting berth in the team. The Croatian, however, has been Mauricio Sarriā€™s go-to man in key games as he started their last encounter against Everton.

Despite Ivan Rakitic being injured Kovacic missed the matchday squad that faced England.

It is reported that Kovacic did not train with the rest of the Croatia squad on Saturday in the build-up to the crunch match and according to reports from Croatian media he has picked up a minor muscle injury. His injury is thought not to have been very serious meaning he could be in contention to feature in the game against Spurs.
