And the top candidate in KCPE scored?

The top candidates in this year’s KCPE exams scored 453 marks. Education CS Amina Mohammed has said.

While releasing the results at the Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa, Amina revealed that two candidates scored 453 marks to emerge tops. This was a slight drop from the 455 marks that Goldalyn Kakuya, the top candidate in KCPE 2017 scored.

There were big improvements in other sections however, as more than twelve thousand candidates scored 400 marks and above. Only nine thousand candidates beat the 400 marks last year.

Majority of the candidates, 573, 927, scored between 201 to 300 marks. The worrying part of the results is the fact that more than two thousand candidates got below 100 marks in the five exams tested.

Amina also revealed that more than 50% of candidates scored above the 250 marks threshold.

The best candidate in the special needs category, had 446 marks. However, the CS revealed that 4 candidates were found guilty of impersonation and their results were canceled.

“Female candidates performed better than their male counterparts in English, Kiswahili and Kenyan Sign Language Male candidates performed better in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religious Studies.” The CS said.
