For the selfie addicts, you might as well think twice before you get your phone to capture those moments on the road. This has landed a fine lady in trouble today. Was she taking a selfie in a photo restricted area?
Well many Kenyans might not know this but taking photos in restricted areas can have you pay heavily for your freedom.
A lady on the streets of social media has today shocked netizens after she claimed that she was arrested by the police for taking a selfie while walking.
According to ‘Sherry Emmah’ she revealed that she was today held in Karen Police Station and the police had told her to pay up 10 thousand Kenyan Shilling before she is released.
The lady took to social media to narrate her frustration and tagged Kenyans to come to her defense.
I have been arrested am in karen police station reason:taking selfie while walking, police now need 10k to release me@honkabogo@bonifacemwangi@cypriannyakundi@donaldkipkorir

Kenyans weighed in asking the lady whether the place she took the selfie had a ‘NO PHOTOGRAPHY’ notice because if that is the case then that can be considered as an offense.
If you take pictures where there are clear notices indicating NO PHOTOGRAPHY then you have to face charges

This might be news to some who have never know about the consequences of defying the law by ignoring the notices.
Some of the places where taking photos is restricted include army barracks, weapons factories, government mines, government camps, State House and its Lodges, signal stations, military ships, foreign embassies, consulates and any place occupied by the government for national security matters.
“The Official Secrets Act outlaws photo taking in prohibited areas like government buildings, military establishments, anywhere where there is a government armoury or any place gazetted as so by the Cabinet Secretary for Defence,”
Is this what landed Emmah in trouble well.. details are still scanty but this may be a lesson calling on Kenyans to be careful before that selfie moment lands you behind bars.
