Long hands of the law!!Rogue MCAs Remanded

Since the last general election Kenyans have witnessed dramas from our honorable members of county assembly from fighting to impeachments.

Early this month Homa Bay Members of the County Assembly engaged in an ugly fist fight at the assembly precincts after one group opposed speaker Elizabeth Ayoo from resuming office.

Seven Homa Bay MCAs accused of assaulting Speaker Ayoo were on Friday remanded for 14 days at the Kodiaga Maximum prison.

This follows a successful application by the prosecution before a Kisumu Magistrates Court seeking more time to conclude their investigations.

The MCAs, who presented themselves at the Nyanza Regional CID Headquarters in Kisumu on Friday morning are accused of assaulting Speaker Ayoo during session proceedings.

The seven are; Evans Marieba (Gwasi North Ward), Phelimon Onditi (Kagan Ward), Dan Were (Kakelo Kokwanyo Ward), Paul Wamunga (North Karachuonyo Ward) Geoffrey Juma Anyango (Kabondo West Ward), Paul Adika (Lambwe Ward) and Peter Kaula (Wang’chieng Ward).

During the incident, the Assembly sergeants saved Speaker Ayoo from the hands of irate MCAs who allegedly pounced on her with kicks and blows accusing her of being biased.

The drama started when MCAs allied to majority leader Walter Muok blocked the assembly’s main entrance to deny Ayoo from accessing her office.

This led to confrontation from another faction allied to chief whip Richard Ogindo who were supporting the Speaker.

Ayoo had arrived at the assembly with police at 10:20 am following Tuesday’s employment and labour relations court order that reinstated her pending the determination of her impeachment case.

The Muok group blocked the main door of the assembly premises and vowed to deter Ayoo’s entry.
