Captain Wayne Rooney’s final England appearance, he should have ended his playing career at Old Trafford!

The friendly match between England and the United States was on Thursday night, which was Wayne Rooney’s final England appearance. He wore the number 10 shirt and captain’s armband when he played the match against the United States. “The players are very keen that Wayne wears the number 10 and we believe that is a fitting tribute,” England manager Gareth Southgate said before the match , “all of our group have huge respect for Wayne and they feel that it is fitting that his last game should in the number 10.”

Rooney had scored 53 goals for England national team since 2003. He came on in the second half of the win at Wembley in the Wayne Rooney Foundation International, two years after he had retired from international duty. He says he will “savour this moment” after an emotional 120th and final appearance for England in the 3-0 win over USA.

Wayne Rooney had won five Premier League titles and one Champions League with Manchester United in his 13-year career playing for Manchester United, with 552 appearances and scoring 251 goals. He burst into the Old Trafford stage in September 2004, having an unforgettable hat-trick against Fenerbahce on his debut. He was from his boyhood club Everton, becoming the world’s most expensive teenager in the process and winning PFA Young Player of the Year in the 2005/05 season. He had excellent performances at Old Trafford and contributed his best years to the Red Devils. However, he couldn’t survive against fierce competition within the team after passing the peak of his football career and had to leave for D.C.United, which might be his greatest regret and he should have ended his football career at Manchester United.
