Arsenal hints he will not end career at Emirates

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has expressed his desire to return to former club Basel in future.

Xhaka, who has been impressive in recent matches after being paired with Lucas Torreira has revealed that he would be open to returning to his former side in the foreseeable future.

He made his debut at Basel back in 2010 before moving to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach two years later after making a big impression in his home country.

Speaking to Basellandschaftliche Zeltung, he said, “Definitely! My career started here and there it is a goal, actually, my dream to return someday. That certainly won’t be the case at 28, I’ll be honest. It’ll probably be more like Alex Frei, who’s the best example of how to do it.”

“He came back once he was in his thirties, but still performed and helped FCB win a few titles. Of course, the expectations are high when you come back again, but it is clearly a dream,” he added.

Xhaka is contracted to the north London club until Jun 30, 2023.

Should Xhaka stay longer at Arsenal?
