Former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Richard Mutinda Kavemba passed on Wednesday morning at the Nairobi Hospital after a short illness.

Mr Kavemba was Governor Mike Sonko’s right hand man having been appointed as Chief Officer, Transport and Public Works, soon after the 2017 elections.

Passed away: 2:30 am on Wednesday 14th November

April 2018: Appointed as CEC in Nairobi County Government

2017 Elections: Garnered 33,109 votes against Sakaja’s 163,448 votes in the Jubilee primaries.

2013 Elections: Vied for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on a Wiper Party ticket against ODM’s Evans Kidero, Jimnah Mbaru (APK), Philip Kisia (Federal Party), Joseph Mwangi (KNC), Geoffrey Kobia (Narc), Eric Mokua and Wanyiri Kihoro.
2002 to 2007: Elected councilor for Nairobi’s Umoja Ward in the then larger Embakasi Constituency.
2008 to 2012: CDF secretary for Embakasi constituency
2013 to 2016: Personal assistant to the Minority Whip in the Senate, Johnstone Muthama.
