The former vice president Kalonzo joins list of most protected EX leaders in Kenya

In January 2018 Wiper Chairman Kivutha Kibwana had advised his party boss, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka, to forget about a deal he had entered into with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In a statement in which he analysed the county’s political future following the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Odinga, Prof Kibwana said that the Opposition should gel into a forbidding force even without Mr Odinga.

“We appreciate that the first handshake did change Kenya’s political environment. It was an act of courage and patriotism. But in my humble view, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula must define their own future politics without reference to the flagship business of 2017. That period is now closed,” Prof Kibwana said.

Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is man whose ears are open and seems to have headed the words of professor Kibwana.

Kalonzo Musyoka  is now one of the most protected ex-state officials in Kenya after the government decided to not only restore his full security detail but also upgrade it to that befitting a former vice president. Security officers drawn from the General Service Unit (GSU) and Administration Police Service were deployed to Musyoka’s homes in Karen, Yatta in Machakos and Tseikuru in Kitui County.Image result for kalonzo kibwana

On Tuesday, November 13, a trusted source confirmed the Wiper party leader, who doubles as National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition co-principal, also received mobile security detail, complete with a police siren to help clear his way whenever he is being escorted.

Although Musyoka is legally entitled to State security by virtue of being a former vice president, the government took away his security detail during the 2017 political stand-off that pitted the NASA coalition against the ruling Jubilee Party following the disputed August 8, presidential poll.

The restoration of Musyoka’s security comes a few days after President Uhuru Kenyatta indicated he was ready to give the former vice president an opportunity to continue serving Kenyans and join hands with him and his NASA co-principal Raila Odinga to foster peace and unity in the country.

“My brother Kalonzo should help us to bring the country together and foster peace for all Kenyans. Every leader has something to contribute, all we need is to give space and respect each other,” Uhuru said during the funeral ceremony of Musyoka’s father, Peter Mairu Musyoka.

Musyoka, on his part, confirmed he was ready and willing to work with Uhuru and even offered to run errands for the president. “I want to ask, in front of this crowd, that no one come between us. Let no one come between my children and the president’s children.

From today I am his right-hand man,” Musyoka said. Musyoka’s offer to be the president’s top errand boy, however, offended his foot soldiers and political allies from the Ukambani region who felt he was stooping too low.

A section of Ukambani leaders, among them former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama, Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior and Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, asked the Wiper party boss to explain what he meant when he said he was now Uhuru’s right hand man. “Honourable Kalonzo Musyoka should explain to Kenyans and his followers what he meant when he said he was President Uhuru’s errand boy,” Muthama demanded.
