No time to ‘Ngirita’. Blow to NYS suspects

Should the courts allow lead NYS suspect to go to hospital for a check up?

On Monday 12th November, the city court handling the National Youth Service corruption case has rejected a bid by one of 37 National Youth Service scam suspects to have the case adjourned.

One of the key suspects Anne Wambere Ngirita sought the adjournment of the case to seek specialized treatment at Mater Hospital but the judge could hear none of it.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti declined the application by Ngirita, who is facing graft charges allowing the ODPP’s office to continue presenting evidence against the suspects.

Earlier this monthm ODPP team laid out the scheme that was allegedly used to siphon money from the government parastatal by the family comprising of Ms Lucy Ngirita, Ms Anne Ngirita and Ms Phyllis Ngirita. They simply delivered AIR!

Detectives are investigating Sh8 billion they believe was misappropriated from the National Youth Service (NYS). They accuse 35 individuals facing corruption charges of being part of a fraud ring that worked to beat the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) leading to loss of public funds.

Despite the prosecutors filing documents in court, which, they allege, show a well-oiled machine involving junior employees all the way up through to the Principal Secretary, Ms Lilian Omollo, the suspects have continued to claim their innocence.

In their opening statements, prosecutors alleged that the PS at that time Ms Omollo is linked to one of the firms, Sakata Ltd, which they said, was still being investigated.

Do you think the courts are serious in nailing NYS thieves this time?
