What you need to know about traffic flow ahead of Safari 7s

First played in 1996, the annual Safari 7s tournament is back, bigger and better. The three-day tournament kicks off today at 9 am at the  Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.

Tournament Director, Godwin Karuga has announced that Ngong Road will be shut down between Ole Odume Road and Makindi Road to enhance security and motorised transport during this year’s Safari Sevens.
“We hereby notify the public of a temporary road closure on the section of Ngong Road between Makindi and Ole Dume roads from 8 am to 10 pm on Saturday 10th November and Sunday 11th November for the Safari 7s, being held at the RFUEA Grounds,” read part of the notice.

Motorists coming from Adams Arcade will either turn to Ole Odume on to Riara Road or Joseph Kang’ethe Road on to Kibera Station Road while vehicles coming from Dagoretti side shall be rerouted to Kibera Station Road or Makindi Road at Swedish school junction on Riara Road.

“The area between Telkom and Impala Club will be left for fans on foot and emergency services. No parking will be allowed at these areas,” said Karuga.

Mr Karuga also added that fans will use the lower gate as has been the case during international matches and urged those coming for the event to seek alternative parking.

VIP guests will use the gate next to Alpha Fit Gym while suppliers will use the upper gate of the arena.

Mr. Karuga said that those using Pewin and Little cabs to RFUEA grounds will be allowed through the security check up to Telkom.

“There is road construction going on along Ngong Road and we want minimal interruption to flow of traffic,” said Karuga.

Karuga said they had good support from the government on security and Kenya Police will deploy officers from different branches of the service pre and post event.

“Kenya Police Service shall be supplemented by security personal from Senaca International Security, who will provide round the clock security during the three days event.”

Regular tickets the Friday tournament are on sale at Ksh. 500 while advance tickets for the Saturday and Sunday tournaments are selling at Ksh. 1,200 per day.
VIP advance tickets are going for Ksh. 2,500 per day while regular seasoned tickets are retailing at Ksh. 2,000 and Ksh. 4,500 for VIP.

Regular gate tickets will cost Ksh. 1500 per day and Ksh. 500 for children.

The Kenya Rugby Union has also made plans to ferry fans to the the grounds from Kencom.
