Old is gold!!Meet the Kenyan oldest woman set for Guinness world records

Esther Gicuku Nguru

A woman in Kiandundu Village, Embu County, who  was dumped in a forest years ago could be among the world’s oldest persons.

Esther Gichuku Nguru  narrates tales of how she was left in the forest to die when she fell ill as a young girl.

Her family cited the culture of disposing  sick people in the forest for wild animals to eat.

Ms  Nguru’s family claim that she is the oldest person alive at 133 years of age.

Though her national identity card states that she is 113, her relatives claim she is 133 and want her in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The family claims that recollection of such incidences are an indication of the culture she was brought up in.

Her 78-year-old son, Elijah Kabau, cited data collected by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) in 1991 in which Ms Gichuku was quoted to be 106 years old.

They used the occurrences to reach this conclusion. Since then, I have religiously added one year to her age and I have come up with 133,” explained to Daily Nation.

The family further elaborated that Ms Gichuku’s husband, Isaac Nguru died at the age of 50 while her first born son recently died at 99.

Mr Kabau, the fourth born in a family of eight, said his mother gave birth well into an advanced age.

The woman’s husband, Isaac Nguru, died aged 50 year while her first born died recently at the age of 99.

Should the Guinness Book of World Records admit Ms Gichuku, she will have beaten the all-time longest human lifespan record which was held by Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment who died at the age of 122.

She was born on February 21, 1875.

In September 2017, GBWR reported that the “oldest living person” had died aged 117.

The person was identified as Violet Moss-Brown from Duanvale in Trelawny, Jamaica, who was recognised on July 27 that year.

In April this year, the record went to Masazo Nonaka, a man from Japan, who was 112 years and 259 days old, according to the GBWR.

The current record is held by Italian Emma Morano who is 119 years old.
