The Odinga and Kenyatta families have often times been referred to as political dynasties as they have held the country’s top leadership since independence.

However speaking during the requiem mass of the late former Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation chairlady Jane Kiano on Friday, Raila clarified that they are not dynasties saying,”Odinga, son of Raila, was just a pauper. You would say he was just a hustler. You cannot, therefore, say that Raila is a product of a dynasty,”

And on Uhuru,”Jomo Kenyatta was a son of a pauper. He struggled and was detained by the colonialists for all those years. Because of that, you cannot say Uhuru is part of a dynasty.”

“Such a leader is a liar who cannot be trusted. This, again, is the reason we have called you here so that you can give your views on the future of Coast unity for documentation,” he said.

“Apart from embracing the national handshake, we must also have our own Coast handshake and forge ahead in development. Leadership has responsibilities. We need each other as we push for unity,” he added.

Mr Kingi who was also in the meeting said those who attended the meeting to represent the interests of non-local leaders were not part of them, but hurdles in the achievement of their dreams.

“It will be hard to achieve all these dreams, including the presidential ambition, if we are here today but representing the likes of Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. That is not the unity we want.”
