Should the government enforce law to restrict selfies in some place?

Selfies have mad people crazy, young stars are loosing their lives during selfie moments.

Residents of  Winyo village in Bondo  are still camping at river Yala in search of the bodies of   two students  who slipped and drowned while taking pictures last weekend.

The two  have been identified as Derrick Auka, a Third Year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and his friend  Sharon Atieno, a student at the Bondo Technical Training Institute, were on a tour before the incident occurred.

Witnesses said they drowned while taking photos at the river Saturday evening.

Area chief Walter Omollo said Atieno, who was taking selfies on a stone next to the river, slid and fell into the water

 

The chief said the other student dived in the river to rescue her but unfortunately was overwhelmed by the powerful currents and also drowned.

He further explained  that Auka drowned after he jumped into the river to save his friend, but was overwhelmed by the raging waters.

By Sunday evening, police and residents in the area were still camped at the river searching for the two students.

Confirming the incident the Bondo OCPD Harriet Kinya said they had received reports of the incident, which happened at around 3pm on Saturday.

The OCPD assured residents of conclusive investigations would be done to establish what exactly happened at the scene. Kinya said;

“My officers are already at the scene to find out all the details before we ome up ith a comprehensive report on what exactly happened”said the police boss.

Adding that Auka was a third-year student at Jaramogi University pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture while Atieno was pursuing a Diploma in Supply chain management at Bondo Technical Training Institute.

She urged the public to be cautious while undertaking their day-to-day activities along the river bank especially during this rainy season.

Recently another varsity student from Kabarak University drowned in rever Molo Nakuru county while taking selfies however his body was retrieved.
