It is said that the love of money is the root of all evil. Where is the lie?

Today, a 28 year-old, Sylviah Wambui who was arrested at her parent’s place in Kinangop, Nyandarua County was today arraigned at the the Engineer Law Courts in Nyandarua County after she was accused of forging documents to claim the ownership of Ridgeways Inn The Yard, a multi-million shillings hotel located along Kiambu Road.

Appearing before Engineer Resident Magistrate Georgina Opakasi, Miss Wambui did not take plea as the prosecution asked for more time to complete its investigations.

In her ruling, the magistrate granted the prosecution’s request and directed that Miss Wambui be detained at the Engineer police station until investigations were completed.

It is alleged that Wambui and two others forged documents to show that she is the sole director at Bebadis Ltd, a company that owns the popular restaurant on Kiambu road valued at Ksh. 300 million.

According to court documents, Ms. Kimani co-owned the business with her fiance Daniel Kimani Kariuki and his niece Ruth Wanjiru Maigua. Mr. Kariuki was the majority owner with 60% shareholding while Wambui and Wanjiru had a 20% stake each.

The charge sheet reads that on August 30, 2018, Wambui colluded with two others to forge share transfer documents using the stamp of lawyer Paul Njihia Njoroge who is the complainant in the case.

She is also accused of forging minutes of a board of directors meeting with a resolution that her partners resigned from their positions before selling their stake in The Yard to her.

In an affidavit, Mr. Kariuki said that the hotel which brings in Ksh. 18 million per month is now being managed by Wambui after she fraudulently took control of the establishment. Kariuki and his niece, Wanjiru have been fighting to re-claim the ownership of their company, a matter that has now ended up in court.

The case will be heard on November 12, 2018.
