Shocking! Rapist kills himself with a jacket

To what serious extent has guilt ever taken you? As the crime rate in Kenya increases a worrying pattern of criminals taking their lives is also increasing at the hands of the authorities. Either mental health is bing neglected or something is very wrong with Kenyan criminals.

Police were left stunned after finding a man they had arrested in connection with the defilement of his daughter dead in the cell. The lifeless man was found hanging from the cell’s ventilation grills with a jacket tightly gripped around his neck on Saturday, November 3.

Ugenya OCPD Willy Simba confirmed the incident saying the deceased who was identified as Maurice Ong’wen Oduor had been arraigned in Ukwala Law Courts with defilement charges on Friday, November 2. He said the magistrate had ordered the suspect to be detained until Monday, November 5 when his mental status assessment report would be presented to determine if he was fit for trial.

“The body was discovered by one of our officers who was on a routine check. The deceased used his jacket to hang himself from ventilation grills in the cell where he was detained. He was arrested for allegedly defiling his daughter,” Simba said.

The police boss said the suspect also faced incest charges. “The body was taken to Ukwala sub-county hospital mortuary. A postmortem is expected to be conducted next week,” said Simba.

There is a growing rise of victims facing serious criminal cases including murder, attempted murder and stealing committing suicide while in police custody.

According to the police records, two murder suspects, Patrick Pkemei Loshameri and a former Strathmore University student Marjan Andele Idahason, committed suicide at Kapenguria police station and Mathari Referral Hospital respectively on the same day, Thursday, August 23.

An attempted murder suspect, David Mwai Wanjiru, 25, committed suicide at Parklands police station where he was being held for trying to kill former Garissa County Finance CEC Idriss Mukhtar.

At Bangale police station, Omar Adan, 27, who had been held for the offence of stealing, committed suicide while in police custody on August 22.
