President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto sent a strong delegation comprising four governors, a Member of Parliament and 17 ward representatives to former Bomet Governor Issac Ruto’s home on Thursday. Governors Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Paul Chepkwony (Kericho), Samuel Tunai (Narok) and West Pokot’s John Lonyangapuo flew into the home in three helicopters and went for a closed-door meeting with the ex-county boss that lasted for close to eight hours.

“Recently, they approached me and I told them to come to the grassroots and highlight the issues to the people so that they can understand where we are going,” Ruto stated.

Mandago stated that the meeting was a clear pointer of bigger things that would unfold in the coming days in the political arena.

“We have come here to urge Ruto to work closely with the President and his Deputy in delivering on their development agenda both at the national and regional levels,” he divulged.

The move has raised talks within leaders in the Rift Valley region about a plan to cement Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential plans.

Thereafter, they addressed Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) delegates and MCAs then proceeded to speak to hundreds of residents who turned up at the compound.

Current Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso was conspicuously missing from the delegation that was set up by the DP’s personal assistant Farouk Kibet. A source privy to the meeting said they had been invited to attend the meeting where some ‘visitors’ would attend.

“We just received calls on Wednesday evening that we are supposed to be at the home on Thursday morning and that the agenda will be party matters,” said one of the former aspirants who requested anonymity.
