The power of KOT: Speed bumps on Waiyaki Way removed

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) was a few days ago blasted by motorists for erecting rumble strips which have caused unnecessary traffic on the busy Waiyaki Way road.

The new bumps were erected on Friday afternoon near Nairobi School and have now turned into a cause of a major traffic tailback on the road.

Motorists using the road complained about the rumble strips saying that they had been spending a whole 20-30 minutes just between Kangemi and ABC Place. They speed bumps were erected as part of the ongoing expansion of Waiyaki Way into a superhighway that is expected to ease traffic from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Rironi area.

But it’s good news for motorists who use Waiyaki Way as their cry has been heard by the relevant authorities and is being attended to. Workers of the KeNHA were today seen removing the strips they had put on the busy road after Kenyans took to Twitter to complain about how the rumble strips were inconveniencing them.

In a bid to ease traffic to and from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and around Nairobi, and also decongest the city centre, Waiyaki Way is being converted into a major six-lane thoroughfare, complete with interchanges as well as service lanes and bus lanes.

The first phase of the expansion on the 25 kilometre stretch between James Gichuru Road and Rironi has turned out to be a nightmare for motorists. However, with the removal of the week old speed bumps, traffic on Waiyaki will reduce the headache for the motorists especially those who use the road on a daily.

Twitter also seems to be the place where people can air their grievances and be heard. Two days ago before Jacque Maribe was released, Dennis Itumbi took to Twitter to call out the Deputy Registrar’s office for intentionally delaying the bail process for the Citizen TV journalist.

However, after one tweet, Itumbi told KOT that it only took one tweet and he got all the assistance he needed from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution and that of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Perhaps because KOT are merciless and can kill you/and your organization while you’re still alive? Who knows?

But one thing is sure, reforms start on Twitter.
