Should Uhuru rule forever? South Sudan Chiefs Council approves

Think of a nation with a permanent President.. colonialism at its best I guess. Funny enough rare opinions seem to be in support of a system.

African countries after independence, hoped for leadership that will be of full service to its people yet now, it feels like we are still  living during the colonial times.

We can all agree that in most African countries, the people only enjoy partial liberty and the rest of it is taxes, corruption and poverty.

On a poster doing rounds on social media, the South Sudan Chiefs Council made a very strange prayer on their wish for the Kenyan President to rule forever.

The poster reads.. ” Chiefs Council of South Sudan congratulates and thanks the IGAD heads of states and governments for supporting the people of South Sudan .. Thank you President Uhuru Kenyatta and people of Kenya” “We are praying to God for  you to rule forever” reads poster

This poster was unleashed a day after  President Uhuru Kenyatta said that he is planning to leave office in 2022.President Kenyatta maintained that he is not interested in extending his tenure after his term expires in 2022.

The President was speaking in an exclusive interview with CNN’s business news anchor and reporter Richard Quest who has been in Kenya recently.

The President in an interview cited that he would not take another stab at the presidency, even if granted the chance to do so.

His statements came as a response to CNN’s Richard Quest in a question regarding plans to change the Constitution.

“I’m not interested in serving another term. I will not take up the chance even if everyone wanted me to.”

Uhuru maintained that he was not by any chance seeking to change the constitution to aid him cling unto power come the year 2022.

South Sudan Relation with Kenya

“The two countries have openly shown support towards each other way back before independence and even after.

Kenya–South Sudan relations are bilateral relations between South Sudan and Kenya. South Sudan is a strategic partner of Kenya in many areas.

Both countries have cultural similarities as many people from South Sudan lived in Kenya before independence.Kenya through IGAD and other regional intergovernmental authorities has been involved in resolving the civil war that began on December 15, 2013.

The Kenyan government has been part of the team that has tried to make both parties sign a ceasefire. Both countries are also part of IGAD, an intergovernmental organisation initially charged with development and environmental regulation. IGAD has since expanded into other areas of regional cooperation. South Sudan joined IGAD in 2011.” (wikipedia)

In a recent documentary by Investigative Journalist John Allan Namu, there are allegations of South Sudan elites looting money from their country and spreading their wealth across East Africa countries including Kenya ..

The big question was are they being protected in our country?  What benefits are they getting that remain covered up?

This poster raises more concerns…

What are your thoughts? Would you support this prayer by South Sudan Chiefs Council?
