Chelsea star reveals why Mourinho loved EFL Cup

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that his former manager Jose Mourinho took the English Football League (EFL) Cup seriously as it builds confidence for the rest of the season.

Fabregas scored the match winner in the fourth round Carabao Cup clash against Derby County in the 3-2 win as Frank Lampard marked his return to the Stamford Bridge as a manager.

Fabregas has featured sparingly for Chelsea this season under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

Speaking after the League Cup win over Derby, Fabregas revealed by Mourinho took the competition seriously.

“And then when I first came here, with Jose, the first target was to win the League Cup. If you win a trophy in February it gives you a lot of confidence for the rest of the season, and I agree. You have to take it seriously, and it’s a good opportunity for the whole squad to compete”
