Exam Cheating! Shock as high school student is caught sitting for KCPE

This year’s national exams have been dubbed as free and fair. What with Cabinet Secretaries moving across the country to supervise the opening of exam containers.

In fact the Ministry of Interior has been accused of militarizing national exams, a tag Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has downplayed.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was himself on the ground on Wednesday morning to witness how exams are being conducted. The President visited Uhuru Gardens Primary School in an impromptu visit.

He entered every classroom and encouraged the candidates to believe in themselves and be proud of what they will achieve in the exams. “So long as you have studied, so long as you have prepared well, that’s all that is required.”

“We are wishing you success and offering prayers. Good luck and success everybody and God bless you!” the president said

But it seems despite all the security measures, some people are hell bend on cheating in the exams. Take for example the case of a secondary student who was caught sitting for KCPE in a center in Kisii County.

A form one student was on Tuesday caught sitting the KCPE examinations at Eburi Primary school centre in Kisii.

The student who has been identified as Vera Reuben, was caught sitting for KCPE at Eburi Primary school  by the sub-county security team on a routine monitoring of the ongoing exams.

According to reports, the 14 year old was registered as a candidate at a Private School called Scania Academy.

Police, in a report on the incident, said the Nyabonge secondary school student was registered by her father without her prior knowledge. Reuben Mogaka, a deputy head teacher at Nyabonge primary, is in police custody.

“She was only informed to go and write the examination by the father after she officially closed for December holidays,” the police report reads.

Vera’s uncle is the brother of Charles Mogaka – the Scania Academy proprietor. He was found marking the class eight pupils attendance register at the latter’s home.

The head teacher of the said academy was also arrested after failing to produce the Standard eight pupils attendance register. Mogaka is, however, still at large.
