One child was killed and five others injured when a device they were playing with exploded at a children’s home in Burat ward, Isiolo County. The children are from Victor’s homestead, a children’s home in Isiolo’s Burat ward.

Although the details of the tragic incident are still unknown, reports say that one of the children was anticipating to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam set to begin tomorrow.

This isn’t the first time something of this kind has happened in the county of Isiolo. In 2015, a teenager died after stepping on explosive device. They boy is said to have gone to graze livestock along with two of his friends when he stepped on the object which exploded, killing him on the spot.

The object was suspected to have been among those used by the military at the School of Infantry during training.

Confirming the incident, area Chief Simon Allois Endong’a called on the residents to be careful about such objects in the area saying many people had lost their lives in the same manner.

In 2008, another boy was been killed and his brother injured after a gadget believed to be an unexploded bomb detonated up at the Ol-donyiro area in Isiolo. The late boy, John Leseketi, 12, died on the spot, when the gadget believed to have been abandoned by British army soldiers during military training in the area, exploded.
