The residents are accusing the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) of neglecting their cries for help.

“I got out of my house only to find the lioness pulling the cow and that was when I threw a panga and it escaped,” One of the owners of the cow recalled.

They say the distress is hampering harvesting as they believe that the animals may be hiding in the maize plantations.

Just recently in October 2018, KWS captured another lion that had escaped from the park.

Deputy County Commissioner Mutheki Ndambuki mentioned that the lioness had been returned to the park.

“We are glad that although several animals fell prey to the lioness, no human life was lost. We also thank residents for co-operating with the officers involved in the exercise,” he explained.

Joyce Waithera, who is a farmer called on KWS to make sure that the animals were restrained.

She stated that “We will not sit and watch the destruction going on and might resort to taking the law into our own hands to deal with the animals in the best way we know how.”
