Mt.Kenya region has spoken

It is a no no to Deputy President William Ruto.

This is a confession made by one outspoken Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu who now claims that the said region will not support DP Ruto’s presidential bid come 2022 general election.

According to Mr.Wambugu, “If these people disrespect Uhuru while he is still President, what will they do when he retires? This should be an eye-opener to voters in Mt Kenya. They should see how disrespectful some MPs can be. We must rethink our strategy,”

His statement comes after five legislators connected to DP Ruto on Monday disrespectfully walked out of Uhuru’s function in Bomet county after they claimed to have been denied a chance to speak to the residents, an incident Ngunjiri believes was stage-managed by Ruto’s camp to blackmail Uhuru for 2022.

He further added saying, “If they can disrespect Uhuru before he retires, what do you think will happen after 2022? It’s good we’ve known their character and we won’t allow it to prevail.”

Uhuru’s succession seems to be dividing Jubilee, with a section of Mt. Kenya MPs accusing Ruto of sabotaging Uhuru’s agenda through persistent politicking.

At Kapsabet on Sunday, despite calls by Rift Valley MPs to have Uhuru backing Ruto, the President technically asked them to work for the people first.

Mr. Ngunjiri Wambugu enjoys closeness with the president but for months, he maintains that whatever he speaks has nothing to do with the president.

A few months ago DP Ruto was cautioned of trusting Mt.Kenya region if he wants to be president, and instead continue creating new alliances across the country if his 2022 bid was to be realised.

According to Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo,  the deputy resident should  tread carefully as he pursues his dream. “My advice to the DP is to know that Mt Kenya has never been reliable. After Kibaki tenure, I was in Wiper and we (Kambas) were promised support for Kalonzo for President but what happened? Ruto should look for new alliances in Ukambani, Nyanza and across the country if he is to be President,”
