The Bizarre Reason Why You may never see Jacque Maribe on TV Again

Light moment in court as Maribe's celeb status raises concern

The prosecution is pushing for Jacque Maribe to be denied bail on the basis that she is a celebrity and may intimidate witnesses.

State Counsel Catherine Mwaniki told the court that if the embattled Citizen TV Journalist is freed on bail and return to work, her presence on the screen would intimidate witnesses lined up to testify against her in the Monica Kimani murder case.

According to the prosecutor, some of the witnesses they are relying on are ordinary citizens who will view Maribe as one of the “high people in society who could intimidate.”

“We are not saying that the accused should be sacked or leave employment. We are talking about her role in the media vis-a-vis the likelihood of intimidation,” said Ms. Mwaniki.

“Yes your lordship. We are saying she does not have to be in the forefront. On a serious note your lordship some of these witnesses will view her as the high people in society who could intimidate.”

The prosecution, however asked that the judge sets a condition that she does not appear on TV in case she is released.

The judge, however, responded by saying: “That is for her employer to say. Have they said in the letter that I can allow her to be a sweeper?”

“Assuming that I am persuaded and say she does not read news and her employers fires her because reading news was her major job, won’t I be taking away her employment…? Then have we helped her?” added the judge

To bring the back-and-forth to a close the judge assured that he would look into the matter and see whether Maribe’s nature of job would influence ongoing investigations.

The ruling on the bail application will be delivered on Tuesday, October 30.

Jacque and her boyfriend Joseph Jowie Irungu have been charged with the murder of Monica Kimani.

The body of the 29 year old woman, was found in her apartment in Lamuria Gardens along Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani. Her hands had been tied behind her back and her throat slit. Her family said she had been raped.
