Members of County Assemblies have always decided to engage in fist fights to solve their grievances.

The latest scenario has happened in Kisumu county assembly where the MCA’s who wanted to kick out their acting speaker engaged in fights that forced the forces to fire in the air to disperse the angry MCA’s.

The same incidents were witnessed in Kakamega where the MCA’s barricaded the entrance to the the county hall because they did not want the existing speaker.

The same week MCA’s from Nyandarua also engaged in running battles even chased out the journalists who were covering the live proceedings of their county reason being they were not satisfied with their speaker.

This has been going on in different counties across the country Nairobi not being secluded. The MCA’s have always fight for their own personal interests than that of the normal citizen who elected them into positions of power.

Most arguments prove that MCA’s maybe are not aware of their expectations in the county assemblies. The always resolve to engage in fights to settle their differences.

Few weeks ago the President decided to slash out the foreign trips made by MCA’s .

In the new stringent regulations, MCAs and county staff will now have to justify and seek the approval of the Ministry of Devolution to travel abroad.

The approval will be made upon submission of a needs-and-benefits assessment before travel arrangements are made.

Both the Council of Governors and the County Assemblies Forum reacted angrily to the new regulations, terming them as an assault on devolution.

This comes as discussions are going around on the calls for referendum where some are proposing the MCA’s to be reduced and their roles magnified because they have seemingly lost the direction of their roles.

The fighting in the county assemblies is a shame and paints a bad picture of leadership in Kenya where the legislature should be a symbol of national pride as they represent the citizens of Kenya.

The President needs to give the standing orders on the proper running of county matters as stipulated by the constitution of Kenya.
