Migori Governor Okoth Obado breaks into a smile

The media has been awash with reports that Migori governor has been released on bail pending his hearing in a murder case in which he has been charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend Sharon Otieno.

In her ruling, Justice Jessie Lessit directed that the embattled governor who has been in custody for close to two months be released on sh 5 million bail.

But most people are not mentioning the tight conditions under which Obado should adhere or loss his freedom.

One of them is that the county chief cannot go over 20 kilometers from Migori County.

“He shall not go anywhere within 20Kms of Homabay County boundary on all sides of that county,” Justice Jessie Lessit warned.

She further directed that Obado should not skip any court session as his bail could be revoked at any time.

The governor was also directed to deposit all his travel documents in court, that is his Kenyan, East African and diplomatic passports.

He is also supposed to report to the deputy registrar once in a month. He cannot intimidate parents, siblings and any relations to Sharon Otieno. The same applies to witnesses.

These conditions basically means that the governor is a caged animal.

The pre-trial hearing has been set for February 14, 2019. The hearing will then commence on May 6-17 the same year excluding Saturdays and Sundays.

His co-accused Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero were however denied bail.
