Who are the good Samaritans that rescued the brutalized boy?

It was a sad story of rejection and abuse when Director of Investigations seeked help from the public to find a brutalized young boy who had gone missing and a video of him telling his story was on line until Youth, Gender and Social Services CEC Esther Ndung’u led the rescue mission for Ishmael Karuru and was assisted by some MCAs who were led by Beth Nyawira and other stakeholders.

Good news came from Nyeri County Director of Communications Carol Nderi who revealed that the county government will take care of Karuru and have him join a local primary school to continue with his education.

“He is currently at Karatina Children’s Home which is fully run and funded by the county government of Nyeri under the leadership of H.E Governor Mutahi Kahiga,” stated Nderi.

The public was made aware of the 13-year-old’s situation by the DCI, through a tweet, as they sought information of what happened to the boy.

Reports pointed out that Karuru was brutalised by a relative he had run to for help after being beaten up by his foster parents.

The relative, named Wachira Njambwea, who reportedly attacked the boy, was the grandson of the woman where he had sought refuge at.

The woman’s affectionate gesture towards Karuru angered Njambewa who came back to the house after a drinking spree and demanded to know if the boy was still there.

“He came home yesterday night and started knocking calling out my name. I pleaded with ‘cucu’ not to open for him but she assured me that nothing would happen to me as long as she was there.

“When he got in, he pulled me out, injured me on the head with a knife and threw me against the wall several times,” remarked the victim.

The boy, who has since received the name Moses at the children’s home, highlighted that he had been abused by his stepmother and has been out of school since 2017.
