Addicted to power? Meet Africa’s Longest Serving Presidents

Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, has won a seventh term, according to the Constitutional Council.

After being elected for a 7th term at 85 years if age, President Biya is now sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest leader. It is now likely that the Cameroonian President is playing on the same team as Uganda’s, Yoweri Museveni and others as far as holding on to power is concerned.

President Biya was first elected in 1982, and has since been the Cameroon President for 39 years.

Paul Biya is number one on the list of ‘Africa’s longest serving presidents’ with Teodoro Obiang, Paul Biya, Yoweri Museveni and Omar al- Bashir following closely behind him.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, 76 years old has been President of Equatorial Guinea for 39 years.

Yoweri Museveni, 74 years old, President of Uganda for 32 years.

Omar-al- Bashir, 74 years old, President of Sudan for 29 years.
