Former Red Devils star Wes Brown,  says the playmaker will be eager to feature against his old club.Mata has experienced mixed fortunes since joining United from Chelsea during David Moyes’ failed stint as manager.

But he is a firm fans’ favourite and offered a glimpse of his quality after coming on against Newcastle two weeks ago.

Mata’s exquisite free-kick set the ball rolling for Manchester United to secure a 3-2 comeback win over the Magpies.

Brown has now hailed the Spaniard in the build-up to United’s showdown with Chelsea.

And he’s identified Mata as the man Jose Mourinho needs to play when he pits himself against Maurizio Sarri.

“Juan Mata scored last time out and it will be interesting to see if he starts,” Brown told United’s official website.

“I always think when a player has been bought from a club, it’s good to put them back in against that team and I’m sure he will want to play.

“He’s a great player, Mata.

“He has the touch, he’s very technical and he can always produce something when it is needed, like he did with the free-kick against Newcastle.”

Brown seems to think United need to take the game to Chelsea in order to get three points.

“Our attacking players will be very important at Stamford Bridge,” Brown added. “We’ve got a lot of pace and hopefully the lads will start the game how we did in the second half against Newcastle. I’d like to see a lot of pace, power, nice passing, good play between in each other and, if we can start like that, we’ve got a chance of winning any game.

“I’m really looking forward to Saturday’s game.”United can end the weekend as high as sixth if they beat Chelsea and results elsewhere go their way.

Meanwhile, midfielder Andres Pereira has dismissed talk of a rift between Mourinho and his squad.

“The relationship is good, it’s cool,” Pereira said.

“I have a very good relationship with him, with the players and he also has a good relationship with the players.

“We don’t feel that pressure coming from outside.

“Everyone says that he’s being sacked.

“We do not feel that.

“I don’t usually have any English media on my phone so I don’t get intoxicated with everything they say.

“He’s our manager, we give our life on the pitch for him and for us too.

“Everyone is very calm, very focused and very happy.”
