Is the proposed Nairobi Deputy Governor a fake?

On October Tuesday 16, 2018, Nairobi County women went to the streets to protest in the quest to have Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko appoint a woman as Nairobi’s Deputy Governor since the post was left vacant in January this year after former deputy governor Polycarp Igathe’s resignation.

Hundreds of women petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to intervene following the continued absence of a Deputy Governor in Nairobi County.

Led by Nairobi County Women Forum chairlady Cecilia Wairimu, the women want Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to move with speed and appoint a Deputy Governor preferably a woman.

“For a close to a year ,women have waited for the Governor to honour his pledge of appointing a woman Deputy Governor. Some of the problems women face emanate from the fact that there isn’t someone high placed to stand for them,”she said.

In March this year,Governor Sonko through his Facebook page proposed some names and asked Kenyans to help him choose a deputy among them was lawyer Miguna Miguna who was rejected by the Nairobi County Assembly.

Others proposed by the Governor include business woman Agnes Kagure , former town clerk John Gakuo,Lawyer Karen Nyamu and Bishop Margret Wanjiru among others.

However, Kenyans on twitter on Tuesday raised a debate following a letter dated March 19, 2018 that was send to Kenya through an Advocate of the high Court from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.

The letter, though not verified by Kenyan authorities came as a response to the inquiries made by Kenyan government on the validity of Agnes Kagure’s academic papers.

The University dismissed claims that Mrs Kagure was one of their students, citing that she even doesn’t appear in the graduation list of 2014 as she claims.

It also urged Kenyan government to treat the papers held by Kagure as fake.

Kenyans on twitter expressed their disappointment, with some citing that one who can easily fake academic papers to become a governor can easily fake tenders when appointed in the post.
