First Lady lands in Nakuru County with ‘baby goodies’

It’s a historic day for the healthcare sector as First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, Margaret Kenyatta officially opens the Margaret Kenyatta Mother Baby Wing at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital in Nakuru County.

This is part of the First Lady’s Beyond Zero agenda that seeks to improve maternal and prenatal healthcare in the country by ensuring that there are zero deaths for both the mother and child during birth.

The Margaret Kenyatta Mother Baby Wing is a state-of-the-art facility with 250 beds, four modern theatres as well as antenatal and postnatal clinics. This is expected to bring closer the First Lady’s goal of keeping mothers and babies alive and eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

The newly opened wing will also offer a child clinic, immunization, comprehensive maternity care and family planning services. The Margaret Kenyatta Mother Baby Wing in Nakuru, which is said to have costed 45omillion is now the biggest of its kind in the country after Nairobi’s Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

This news has come as a breath of fresh air for Kenyans who have lauded the First Lady for this great move that marks a great improvement in the health sector in the country and more so, for the mothers in Nakuru County.

Nakuru Governor, Hon. Lee Kinyanjui also thanked the First Lady for gracing the launch of the new wing.

The Governor in a statement said that they named the Wing after the First Lady in recognition of her dedication to end child mortality in Kenya, which he added, will be the main goal of the Margaret Kenyatta Mother Baby Wing.
