Why Jowie, Maribe will get back in remand after Wednesday’s mention

Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie will have to reappear in Court again after the slated Wednesday October 17, 2018 mention.

This came after the duo pleaded not guilty to the charge of killing Monica Kimani.

Appearing before Justice Jessie Lessit at Milimai Law Courts, Maribe and Jowie were jointly charged with the murder of Monica Kimani on September 19, 2018.

“Joseph Kuria Irungu and Jacque Maribe at an unknown time at Lamuria Gardens apartments on Kitale Lane, off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani area within Nairobi County you are jointly charged with the murder of Monica Kimani,” judge Lesiit read out the charge, to which the two pleaded not guilty.

Maribe’s lawyer Katwa Kigen asked for the close fixing of hearing dates in which Justice Lessit had to fix Wednesday for the mention that aims at fixing a date for the hearing of their bail applications.

This means that their appearance in Court on Wednesday will be for fixing a date in which their bail hearing will be made, and thus they will have to go back in remand to await the bail hearing date.

The two have since undergone mental assessment which ascertained that they are fit to stand trial.

Jowie, the main suspect in the case, was arrested on September 24 after police placed him at the scene of the crime.

CCTV footage also showed that he had used Maribe’s car to get to Lamuria Apartments where Monica Kimani was dumped in a bathtub with her throat slit.

The DNA results from the samples taken from him also matched 99.9%.
