Harambee Stars book AFCON slot with ruthless thrashing of neighbors Ethiopia

Harambee stars are all but sure of a place in next year’s African Cup Of nations Tourney to be staged In Cameroon form the 7th to 30th of June. This follows a comfortable 3-0 victory over Ethiopia in a match played at the Kasarani National Stadium in Nairobi.

Backed a by a full to capacity Kasarani Stadium, Sebastian Migne’s boys started off with a very comfortable display and were in the opponents box as early as the third minute. The home side’s early pressure finally paid off in the 23rd minute when lanky striker Micheal Olunga connected with a well timed cross to give Kenya the lead.

Olunga almost added to his tally two minutes later but the visiting goalkeeper made a stunning save to deny the former Gor Mahia striker. Harambee Stars were however not to be denied just four minutes after going into the lead with Erick Omondi’s fearsome drive into the bottom right corner added a second for hosts to send Kasarani into a frenzy. Ethiopia awoke from their slumber and regained a foothold of proceedings to keep the scoreline respectable going into half time.

Olunga almost scored his second shortly after the restart but the Ethiopian Custodian again produced a fine save to keep out the ‘Engineer’s’ header. After some nice build up play from Harambee StarsĀ  midway through the second half, the ever dangerous Erick Ouma was brough down inside the box and the referee had no choice but to award Kenya a penalty.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and Captain for the day Victor wanyama stepped up to tp cooly slot the ball home for a 3-0 lead. the only negative from the performance was Wanyama coming off injured shortly after his goal to be replaced by Johanna Omollo.

Harambee Stars showed perfect in game management to deny the visitors any sniff on goal after the third goal and were worthy 3-0 victors at the final whistle. The win moves Kenya top of group F with 7 points, followed by Ethiopia who are on four points. Ghana and Sierra Leone are third and fourth respectively with 3 points each.
