Video: An MP Calls upon Leaders to take referendum debate seriously

Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament  Caleb Amisi has asked leaders to take the referendum debate seriously saying  it will determine the future of the country.

Amisi spoke during the launch of his foundation aimed at helping needy  students in Trans Nzoia county that provided a perfect platform for leaders present to ventilate on the ongoing referendum debate.

His remarks comes amid calls for referendum by NASA Leader Raila Odinga who proposed a three tier system of government.

Despite receiving criticism from other leaders, Odinga has reiterated his stunt on referendum, terming ity as inevitable.

The Third Way Alliance Party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot is also running a campaign dubbed punguza Mizigo spearheading for the reduction of representations in the government.

Until now Dr Aukot’s Party has managed to collect 600,000 signatures out of the 1 million needed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) to approve a referendum.

Several leaders among them Deputy President William Ruto who at first opposed Odinga’s calls have been seen supporting the referendum calls.

The leaders calling for a referendum argue out that Kenyans are over represented and thus reduction of some positions will reduce the wage bill.

The current Constitution was promulgated in 2010 bringing into effect the devolution system of goernment.
