Leyla Mohamed, the 13-year old social media sensation might just in a few days be living her dreams. Leyla took the internet by storm last week after she released her rendition of the song Wimbo Wa Historia. The song, originally done by Enoch Ondego, tells the story of the early years of Kenya’s independence.
The interent fell in love with Leyla’s gift and KOT (Kenyans On Twitter) took to the Twitter streets with the hashtag #LeylaForMashujaaDay campaigning for her to be chosen as one of those who will entertain the President at the national event.

According to an interview with Standard Media, Leyla said that her dream is to perform for President Kenyatta on a national stage. This 13-year old’s dream is slowly becoming a reality after the PPMC (Permanent Presidential Music Commission), in a tweet, confirmed that Leyla has been selected as one of the performers to grace the Mashujaa Day celebrations this year which will be held at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega county on October 2oth.

DJ Pinye, who brought Leyla to the limelight also thanked Kenyans for sharing the song and making Leyla’s dream a reality.
Leyla Mohamed, is a standard eight student at St. Teresa’s Girls Primary School and is expected to sit for her national examination this year in November. Though still a teenager, this new kid on the block seems to be having things working out for her. Yesterday the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage celebrated her as the musician of the day.

Leyla, who is currently under the Permanent Presidential Music Commission where she is taking vocal lessons shared a video from one of her practice sessions ahead of Mashujaa Day.
