11th October is the Day of the Girl Child celebration all over the world. This day was declared by the United Nations . It is also called the Day of Girls and the International Day of Girls .October 11, 2012 was the first time this celebration were launched.

This Day celebrate the milestones covered by the girls all over the world to reach where they are in the environment which is dominated by man. This day recognizes women who have significant impact in the male – dominated society.

The 1.1 billion girls of today’s world are challenging the status quo. They’re redefining girlhood, and they’re doing so against the odds.

Across the world, girls face adversities that hinder their education, training and entry into the workforce. Take internet and communications technology for instance, where the digital gap is growing as we speak; the difference in internet use between men and women grew from 11 per cent in 2013 to 12 per cent in 2016, and the gap is even wider in some lower-income countries.

Most African nations were the most affected in the 19th century.The girl child was looked down upon and man came first. The suffered many devastating conditions such as being raped and criminalized in many different ways . Women were not supposed to go work instead stay home and follow the shots being called by the man, who had the final say in every matter.

Right now, a quarter of young people, most of them girls, are neither employed nor in education or training. As they enter the workforce, these girls and young women will be more likely to engage in informal employment, which puts them at higher risk for workplace abuse, exploitation and unfair wages.

On International Day of the Girl (11 October), themed “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, meet some amazing (s)heroes who are rising against all odds, inspiring others and innovating for a better future.This day gives hope for the girl child down in the streets who are misused and abused. It aims at inspiring them to take up their roles in the society.

Several programmes have been launched in various places to equip the girl child with relevant experience relevant to help them sail through in the modern generation.

Many people have stood up fighting for their rights . Feminism articles are being spread  to reach out to the people who still view women as less human.  All attempts are being made by even gender based groups to equip the girl child in the society.

In Kenya the current constitution tries to carter for the women. 2/3 rule as stated by the constitution tries to make the girl child also ascends to  positions of power as man. This law has been adapted by many  developt countries to make the girl child scale up .

The girl empowerment has been spread even in schools to make the girls understand the positions they hold in the society and rise up .

But some feminists have argued but the girl empowerment programs that came to detriment the man in the society. Right now the boy child is suffering in silence without console. In most recent cases are the ones who are going down the scale as the focus has been given so much to the girl child.
