Revealed: Fort Ternan Tragedy bus was not licensed to operate at night

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) boss Francis Meja has said that the bus that caused a grisly accident along Muhoroni-Londiani road was not licensed to operate at night.

The 62-seater Isuzu bus that claimed the lives of 52 people is reported to have overlooked the NTSA’s regulations and PSV standard rules of operation.

According to the NTSA portal, the vehicle under registration number KBX 092J, was illegally operating at night as it had not acquired a night travel licence.

While narrating the ordeal from the hospital bed, one of the survivors  blamed the bus managers for being arrogant, overloading the vehicle and the driver for over speeding.

Fort Ternan Police Station OCS Charles Ocharo says the bus was heading to Kisumu from Nairobi when it veered off the road.

It is reported that the bus was going downhill when it hit a guardrail and rolled.

At least 10 survivors were rushed to Fort Ternan dispensary and Muhoroni Sub County Hospital.

KTN News reported on Wednesday that the Homeboyz bus plies Nairobi-Western Kenya route at night from Machakos Country bus.
