Passaris Opens up on the moment when Uhuru denied her a Mayor Position

Nairobi woman representative Esther Muthoni Passaris on Wednesday revealed a moment that happened about a decade ago when retired President Daniel Arap Moi jokingly chastised the then local government minister Uhuru Kenyatta for denying Nairobi its second woman mayor.

Passaris cited that Moi jokingly chastised Uhuru  when he struck her name off the gazetted list.

The Nairobi woman representative said that during the moment sharing about moi day by Kenyans on Twitter.

She was responding to a post by Activist Boniface Mwangi where she thanked him for capturing such a moment that he had shared.

Pasaris was elected the Nairobi woman representative in the past 2017 polls on an ODM Party ticket where she defeated the former Jubilee Senator Rachael Shebesh.

She posted the moments amid celebrations of the day that had been scrapped off following the promulgation of the new 2010 constitution.

Moi declared October 10 to be marked as a state occasion 18 years ago to mark his 10 years in Power.

It was first marked in 1989 as a state occasion. But two years before Moi retired, he declared it a day of private dedication to the less fortunate.

An aggrieved Kenyan, Gregory Nyauchi, moved to court to challenge the decision to stop observing Moi Day as a public holiday where he acquired orders reinstating the day from Justice George Odunga.

On Monday the interior cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i declared Wednesday October 10 a public holiday following the pending Court orders by Justice Odunga.

He however declined to state how the day was to be celebrated citing preparations for another public holiday on October 20, Mashujaa Day.

Kenyans were however on Wednesday on Twitter sharing different moments they could remember about Moi Day.
