Lingard set for pay boost in new Man Utd deal

Manchester United are set to begin talks with Jesse Lingard over a new deal at Old Trafford, according to reports. The England international has started four matches for the Red Devils in the league this season off the back of an impressive run to the semi-finals of the World Cup with the Three Lions.

Last campaign, Lingard was a key part of United’s squad that finished second in the Premier League and provided 13 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions.

He is reported to be on around £100,000-a-week at the club in a deal that runs until 2021 with some fans surprised that he had been rewarded with such a lucrative contract at the time.

And now the Metro claims that United will conduct a review of the 25-year-old’s contract with a view to offering him a better salary and fresh terms in 2019.

Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Luke Shaw have all entered the final year on their contracts and they are keen to tie down Lingard for the long term.Liverpool and Manchester United are both preparing for the possibility of making a cut-price bid for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey in January, according to Standard Sport.

The 27-year-old’s contract negotiations with the Gunners collapsed last month with his current deal due to expire next summer.

The Welshman is keen to remain in England, despite interest from abroad, with his family settled in London.

Ramsey is not short of options with AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus also interested in landing his signature.

However, the midfielder is expected to remain in England with his wife soon to give birth to twins.

Arsenal officials feel Liverpool and United will attempt to take advantage of the player’s contract situation in January.

Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Ramsey as an alternative to Nabil Fekir whose move from Lyon fell through over the summer.

Meanwhile, £52m signing Fred is yet to hit the ground running at Manchester United and Jose Mourinho is keen to sign a new midfielder.

It is expected that Ramsey could leave the Emirates for a fee worth around £25m.

Unai Emery will sanction the sale of Ramsey in January to raise funds to reinvest in his squad.

Like Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal will look to sell the player in January to recuperate some funds.

The Gunners are eyeing moves for Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron and Porto’s Hector Herrera.
