Wales National team Manager Ryan Giggs has warned Manchester United that sacking Jose Mourinho now would only invite further trauma in future.
The club legend said the problems at United are down to a lack of ‘forward planning’ and insisted Mourinho should keep his job.
Giggs was at Old Trafford on Tuesday night alongside his Class of 92 teammates to watch United’s dour 0-0 draw against Valencia, a fourth game in succession without victory.
Another legend Paul Scholes, said Mourinho was ’embarrassing’ United with his public statements and was surprised he had survived the West Ham defeat.
But Giggs offered a different take, appearing to point a finger of blame at executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
He said, “United are going through a tough time at the moment, but change now and you’ll be in the same position in a year, two years, quite possibly. I believe Mourinho should keep his job. The problem of late has been of forward planning. They should take stock, they are going through a tough time.”
Asked whether he would be interested in succeeding Mourinho should the Portuguese leave the club, Giggs said: ‘No. My stance hasn’t changed.’
