“Give us peace” Media personalities speak on Maribe’s woes

“We’re human beings” Media personalities are now coming out to express their concern over Jacque Maribe’s case following her arrest as suspect linked to the murder of Monica Kimani.

Although she is not the fast to jump to Maribe’s defence, Jeridah Andayi who is a media radio personality, has shared a long post on her facebook page to weigh into the matter.

“I’m in the media . I’m a woman. I’m well known and so I feel right now what Jacque is going through. Most of this is because she’s well known and so she gets judged for everything . I know it. I get judged all the time because I’m in the limelight. Would you all be interested in this case if it wasn’t a media personality? I doubt. Look here, we’re human beings. We have a life beyond the radio microphones and studio cameras . Give us peace . Respect our private space. I say this for hundreds of my colleagues who are feeling so fatigued with Jacque this Jacque that, media women this and that. We have a life behind the cameras and off the microphones . And oh yes , we realize that we’re greatly privileged to occupy the public space. That does not make us less or more of humans. Every time you feel entitled to judge those in public eye, think again!” reads post

A few days ago, the silence by media personalities in regard to Joseph Irungu’s case began to raise concerns to a number of Kenyans. Generally, media houses were also criticized for bringing Maribe into the limelight even though the police are yet to clarified on what exactly happened. Although silence does not mean abandoned, a concerned Kenyan claimed that the people who had earlier congratulated Maribe now seem to have abandoned her.

Other media personalities who spoke include Maribe’s friend Terryanne Chebet who was responding to rumours that she had been summoned by the DCI.

” Good Morning guys, It has come to my attention that I have been allegedly summoned by the DCI in connection to my friend Jacqui’s arrest. First, I would like clarify that DCI has not reached out to me and I have only read about it online. While I am not involved in the unfortunate events, I understand that by virtue of being Jacqui’s friend, I may be called upon as a character witness. Should I be called upon, I am available.” reads Chebet’s post

Another news anchor Steven Letoo who is Maribe’s friend also shared his message.
