Everton star express disinterest in Chelsea

Soon after signing a new long-term contract with Everton, Jordan Pickford has admitted that Chelsea interest in the summer never swayed him.

With Thibaut Courtois joining Real Madrid, Chelsea sought to find an able replacement for him and had a shortlist that included Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The former Sunderland goalkeeper had an impressive debut season for Everton last season and was called up the England squad that featured in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Responding to rumors that he might have left the club in the summer transfer window Pickford noted that, “You’ve just got to keep performing and put that to the back of your mind. You just don’t let it affect you – even if you see speculation. I just knuckle down and focus on my game, that’s how I do it. I knew I had a contract with Everton and I didn’t at any time think anything other.”

Pickford added that if he had not made the switch to Everton, he would still be playing for Sunderland, “If I didn’t come to Everton I think I would have been with Sunderland – that’s my hometown club and if this wasn’t here I probably would have been there still.”
