Could the Government Have Directed Tax Anger to Obado?

In what could freshly shape the line of investigations into the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, the court on Thursday rejected Migori governor Okoth Obado’s application for bail on grounds that the case was still an active investigation.

Obado’s case could have come at the Wrong time and even if he was innocent in any slightest way, the VAT anger Kenyans have with the government will be channeled to him.

Would the government have used his case as a major Diversion? This remains a major issue of discussion among Kenyans.

A moment after the finance Act of 2018 was signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday of last week, Obado was arrested in a case liking him to the murder of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno.

The same day of Obado’s arrest former Nairobi County governor Dr. Evans Kidero was arrested.

Obado was arraigned in Court on Monday after spending three nights at Gigiri police cells where he denied charges before Justice Jessie Lessit at Milimani Law Courts.

The efforts by his defense team led by Lawyer Cliff Ombati bore no fruits that day as Justice Lessit rejected to give ruling into the filed application.

Obado had to spend a fourth day behind the bars as Justice Lessit remanded him at Industrial area prison to have him arraigned in Court on Tuesday 2pm for his bail application ruling.

On Tuesday 2pm Obado arrived at Milimani Law Courts hoping for the best but again Justice Lessit ordered for his fate to be known on Thursday 27th 2018.

Obado was again remanded at Industrial area Prison for two more days, adding up to six days behind bars.

He was arraigned in Milimani Law Courts on Thursday as it had been ordered but nothing came out in his favor but just pain.

Obado was remanded again till 8th October 2018 and Kenyans are now wondering if this could be a way completely diverting Kenyans’ tax anger to Obado.
