Blow for Liverpool in preparations for Chelsea clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said Virgil van Dijk remains a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday.

Klopp is adamant that he has adequate cover if the centre-back cannot feature. Van Dijk is yet to return to full training after aggravating a rib injury during the 3-0 win over Southampton on Sept. 22.

Dejan Lovren made his first appearance of the season in midweek against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, while Joel Matip has started Liverpool’s last two matches.

“We have to wait,” Klopp said of Van Dijk at a news conference on Friday. “He hasn’t trained with the team so far. If Virgil is fit and can play, he will play. But if not, we have options and that’s good.”
