President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday morning witnessed the signing of a deal to deliver 100,000 affordable housing units.
The project will be financed through a partnership between the Kenya Government and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The signing of the deal took place on the sidelines of the ongoing 73rd United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The affordable housing agreement between Kenya and UNOPS is part of the UN agency’s Social Impact Investment Initiative (S3i), a pogramme that underlines UN’s commitment to fostering innovative financing for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
However, the deal has been received with a lot of criticism from Kenyans on twitter who claim the deal is a mother of many other scandals to come in Kenya.
They say a better part of the money meant for better housing as one of the big four agenda will be lost through corrupt government officials and those in charge of the deal.
One third of that money will be lost to corruption under your watch. And you will tell us as you always do, “sasa mnataka nifanye nini?”. You have taken Kenya back 15years.

Some Kenyans are angered with the incident where Kenya has to depend on financing from other nations and world organizations for it to launch any project even after more than 50 years of independence.
They warn that money they are paying through taxes will be lost through looting on projects that won’t benefit them.
50+ years after independence and no project can be undertaken without ‘financing’, how about the backbreaking taxes we pay as Kenyans? Stop the double speak, that we don’t come with a begging bowl, while you act in the contrary. You can’t fool all the people all the time.
