Unai Emery urges Rob Holding to earn Starting spot

Arsenal Head Coach Unai Emery has challenged Rob Holding to continue proving himself in Arsenal’s defence against Brentford in the Carabao Cup 4th round  on Wednesday night. Arsenal welcome Brentford to the Emirates, and Holding is in line to start his first game in a row. Holding was called upon form the bench against Everton in the Premier League  on Sunday when Sokratis Papastathopoulos was forced to go off due to injury.

Emery will hand Holding another chance to impress against Brentford, and urged his centre-back to continue performing. The Spanish Coach said,  “We need every player when chances and opportunities come, because we need to also take more players to play. Like on Sunday, for example, after Sokratis’ injury it was important how Rob played and helped the team to find the performance to win against Everton.

The Manager went on, “Brentford is also a good opportunity for Holding to continue taking confidence, taking minutes and taking also our ideas of playing and I want to look at him also with our best performance, staying in the first eleven.”

Holding revealed this week he had already spoken to Emery about his lack of playing time this season, and was given assurances by the manager that  he was in his plans.

Holding said, “Before the international break the boss pulled me in and said ‘Keep doing what you’re doing, the games are coming thick and fast now.’ So I just had to be ready mentally and physically, and I’ve been fine in both games, so I look forward to it.”
