Kenya football giants Gor Mahia are in advanced talks to sign free agent Ugandan left back Shafiq Batambuze.

The latter is tipped to be the replacement for his fellow countryman Godfrey Walusimbi who ditched K’Ogalo last month for South African side, Kaizer Chiefs.

Batambuze parted ways with Tanzania’s Singida FC after spending barely two months where he had penned a two-year deal.

Club deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala declined to talk on the matter. He said: “I don’t have much to say on that. Not now.”

However, an insider at the club told Citizen Digital that negotiations are at an advanced stage and the Ugandan could soon sign between the dotted lines.

“Talks are ongoing. The chairman confirmed to me that everything is progressing well. He is seen an easier option because he is a free- agent therefore there would be no complications as the club doesn’t have to negotiate with another club,”said the source.

The development comes in the wake of reports that a a number of key planks of the team wants out of the Kenyan giants.
