Blow for Chelsea ahead of Liverpool clash

Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola has revealed that they are set to do without the services of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pedro and Antonio Rudiger in the third round Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool.

Rudiger suffered an injury in the 0-0 draw to West Ham United and was stretchered off in the 69th minute with Gary Cahil replacing him. Pedro, on the other hand, picked up an injury in the 1-0 win over Greek side PAOK in the UEFA Europa League. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was injured while on national team duty with England and was injected which meant that he missed the game against West Ham and is set to be sidelined for a week.

Zola game an injury update on the trio, “Ruben has had an injection and is still recovering. It is very unlikely he will be able to be a part of the game. The same for Rudiger and Pedro. They are recovering well but it will be tough for them to be part of the game tomorrow.”

The former Chelsea player also hinted at the possibility of fielding fringe players, “We will see. I think it is an opportunity to see players who did not have many games so far. So there is an opportunity, but there will still be a good team.”
